Welcome to Champlain Valley Crimestoppers

Introduction to Crimestoppers

Champlain Valley Crimestoppers was started in 1982, 6 years after the first chapter began in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Crimestoppers is a donation-sponsored partnership between our community, the media and law enforcement. Its mission is to get the public involved to prevent and solve crimes. Rewards are paid for tips that lead to the arrest and indictment of people charged with crimes.

Today there are some 1,200 Crimestoppers programs around the world to take tips to assist investigators to solve serious crimes like homicides, sexual assaults, drug-trafficking, robberies, and more.

Crimestoppers has proven to be an extremely cost-effective concept to help solve crimes and keep our streets, homes, and businesses safe.

What Crimestoppers Does

  • * Tip Line Operation *
  • Our main function is to provide a direct way for the public to assist law enforcement by maintaining a tip line where anyone can anonymously report suspicious activity or give information about a crime.
  • * Public Educational Initiatives *
  • Champlain Valley Crimestoppers and Fox 44 produce two regularly broadcast spots designed to locate fugitives. "Citizens' Patrol", which identifies six new fugitives per week, airs every Monday and runs up to 20 times a week.  "Vermont's Most Wanted", produced in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals' Service, profiles a new fugitive each week. CVCS and WCAX Channel 3 produce Crime Stopper Reenactments which air throughout the region to help solve crimes. CVCS, in partnership with Hall Communications Group, also produces Crime Stopper Reenactments, broadcast on the radio numerous times each week.
  • * Law Enforcement Days *
  • Representatives from area law enforcement agencies present an opportunity to learn about safety issues, crime prevention, law enforcement and community policing.
  • * Children's ID Photos *
  • In partnership with Saturn of South Burlington and the U.S. Marshals Service, Champlain Valley Crimestoppers takes free children's photos and supplies parents with emergency child information booklets.
  • * National Night Out *
  • Thousands of communities nationwide join together on a summer evening to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and generate support for local law enforcement efforts.
